FACES OF SREBRENICA GENOCIDE VICTIMS

PHOTO: Srebrenica Genocide Memorial in Potocari is a final resting place for 8,372 souls – mostly men, boys, and elderly victims of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide.

The Dutch Westerbork Memorial Center (kampwesterbork.nl) is creating a database of photos of Sebrenica genocide.

The exhibition, which features photographs taken by Dutch soldiers, is scheduled to open by 11 July, the anniversary of the fall of the Muslim enclave in Bosnia- Herzegovina.

Wim Dijkema worked for the Dutch Ministry of Defence in Srebrenica in 1995. He gave 280 unpublished photographs to the Memorial Center. The photos are important in making people aware of the Srebrenica tragedy, Dijkema says.

This week, representatives of the Srebrenica survivors are in the Netherlands for a meeting with former Dutchsoldiers. Dutch veterans and families of genocide victims also visited the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia at the Hague Thursday.
