Peace March 2009, known as “March of Death, Road to Freedom” is a 110 kilometres long annual event held in honor of the Srebrenica genocide victims. The march starts in Nezuk and ends in Potocari. Other points of the march start in Zepa and end in Potocari. Additionally, there is also a 500 kilometres long bike marathon starting in Bihac and ending in Srebrenica. This year, a group of participants also walked 500 kilometres to join a convoy in Nezuk, and then finish in Srebrenica (a total of 610 kilometres on foot!).
Now you can join the March with the help of Google Maps! Go and explore interactive maps and follow participants through the footsteps of the Srebrenica genocide victims from Nezuk all the way to Srebrenica, and from Zepa all the way to Potocari – all with the help of satellite images. STOP! REMEMBER THE TRUTH: Serbs from heavily militarized villages around Srebrenica had terrorized Srebrenica population and constantly attacked neighbouring Bosnian Muslim villages from 1992-1995. In July 1995 the Bosnian Serb army staged a brutal takeover of Srebrenica and its surrounding area, where they proceeded to perpetrate genocide. Bosnian Serb soldiers separated Bosniak families, forcibly expelled 25,000-30,000 people, summarily executed at least 8,372 boys, men, and elderly, and dumped them into mass graves.
